On Wednesday 20th March our young people preparing for the sacrament of reconciliation will go to confession for the first time. Please pray for them and for all those who may be thinking about using this time of Lent to go and receive the grace of this healing sacrament.
The sacramental preparation programme My Lord and My God, at the Cathedral is based on the reading from John's Gospel, which includes a reference to the authority given to the disciples to forgive sins.
CCC 1485 "On the evening of that day, the first day of
the week," Jesus showed himself to his apostles. "He breathed on them, and said
to them: 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are
forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained"' (Jn 20:19,
22-23).
