Thursday 26th September, teachers, governors, catechists and a number of priests from around the diocese joined Bishop Michael Campbell for a final celebration of the Year of Faith.  It was nearly a year ago when the diocese gathered in Lancaster Cathedral to mark the start of the Year of Faith.  



Young people from Our Lady's Catholic School Preston, conducted by Mr Robinson, Head of Music, led the congregation in music.  Following his homily, the congregation renewed their Baptismal Promises and the Bishop blessed those present with Holy Water.

After Mass, Bishop Michael Campbell returned to present certificates and commission educators throughout the diocese including those who were starting their teaching career, retiring or had gained promotion.  He also gave out Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) to individual teachers and catechists including one of the Cathedral's Confirmation Catechists.  As part of the year of faith the Diocese has supported individuals to undertake a module on the Catechism - so with 57 days left to the end of the Year of Faith you may want to find out more.

Liturgy of Hours: Breviary

The Liturgy of the Hours is also known as the Divine Office and is a set of prayers that members of the Church use throughout the day so that day and night are 'made holy by the praise of God'. When a priest is ordained, he promises to pray the Liturgy of the Office in the morning, in the evening and at other times during the day. The Liturgy of the Hours includes psalms, readings from the Old and New Testaments, hymns and prayers and can be prayed individually or as part of a community. It can also be sung. 

CCC 1176 The celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours demands not only harmonizing the voice with the praying heart, but also a deeper "understanding  of the liturgy and of the Bible, especially of the Psalms."

Benedict XVI

On the Feast of St Casimir who was patron of the young, it is inspiring to read tributes to Benedict XVI from young people in the Church.  The first is a blog that is planning to offer for 40 days, 40 reflections from 40 young people on how Pope Benedict has touched their hearts and why they are proud to be part of #GenerationBenedict.  The second is a tribute of quotations of things that Benedict XVI said and links to the documents in which they appeared, a valuable source of inspiration during this Year of Faith.
