Introduction

The Year of Faith calls us all to reflect more deeply on the meaning and purpose of faith. It is an wonderful opportunity to consider anew and find out more about our faith and all it entails.  There is such a rich treasury for us to dive into and sometimes we just don’t know where to begin.  This website may help you find your own Door of Faith or at least lead you  to a new door into the treasury. There you will discover so many riches and rediscover forgotten jewels of the faith.  Faith is more than just knowing information or facts about Jesus and the Church.  Faith must lead us into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, after all He is the greatest treasure of all and He leads us to the greatest gift of all – love.

I hope you find these pages simulating and helpful in your quest for a deeper understanding and love of the faith.  In the meantime let us pray for one another, most especially during this year, that our faith will deepen and that our witness to that faith will become a Door of Faith for others.

St Peter’s church was consecrated on 4th October 1859, dedicated to God as a new Catholic parish church for Lancaster. In 1924 it became the Cathedral Church of the new Diocese of Lancaster, and now has served parish, city and diocese for 153 years.

The Cathedral has seen many changes in its life so far, adapting and responding to a changing society and the reforms of the Church’s liturgy after the Second Vatican Council, including the recent introduction of the new translation of the Roman Missal in 2011. 

Today it is both home to an active parish and the mother church of Catholics in Lancashire and Cumbria between Preston and Carlisle. We are open as a place of prayer 8:30am-6pm, with occasional exceptions

Lancaster Cathedral was built by people of faith and it continues to be a focal point for a faith community,  Many visitors talk about the peace of the cathedral which is captured in the following video made  by some parishioners.
